Leadership and management of others means that we really need to keep an eye on the small things. The small things are actually the ones that are in the day-to-day, the gotta minutes, the oil that greases the wheel. Haven't you had those situations as a leader when small things happen in front of you and you think “I'll take care of that later”. Then later never comes. Then that person who regularly does the small thing that irritates you, does one more small thing and you blow up or overreact. Thereby putting yourself in the situation that you were trying to avoid in the first place, looking like the jerk. Or making a mountain out of a molehill to use a phrase. So I want to encourage you that looking at the small things, sweating the small things, taking care of the small things in a personal relationship or a management position might be the most important focus of each day. No sweeping under the rug, no mountains out of molehills… Take care of the little things and the rest will grow!
