Our Experience at Saj Lebanese Cuisine

Saj is much less formal than we were expecting—order at the counter and find a seat—and flavors are anything but ordinary. The hummus was a smooth, creamy delight, perfectly complemented by the cabbage rolls, which were delicately stuffed with meat and spiced with garlic and lemon.

A Feast for the Senses

The mixed grill platter was a highlight, featuring an assortment of shish tawook, beef kabob, and chicken shawarma. Each piece of grilled meat sliced from the shawarma grill was juicy and bursting with savory notes. The tabouli salad, was fresh and green with parsley and with just a light touch of oil—a refreshing counterpoint to the rich meats. One of the more intriguing dishes was the labneh sandwich. Labneh, a kefir cheese/yogurt, stuffed into a wrap sandwich with cucumber, black olives, and za'atar spices made for a great vegetarian (not vegan) option that was so rich, we had to save the other half for home! The batata harra—fried garlic potatoes—were crispy and full of garlicky goodness, quickly becoming a table favorite.

Signature Cocktails & Delectable Desserts

Saj's cocktail menu is a delightful fusion of Mediterranean and modern influences. The Mediterranean Mule, with fig vodka, limoncello, and ginger beer, was a sweet and refreshing treat, while the pomegranate paloma offered a perfect balance of tequila, pomegranate juice, and grapefruit Topochico, with a fragrant hint of rosemary. The desserts at Saj were a revelation. The baklava was a perfect symphony of flaky pastry, nuts, and honey. However, the standout was the rice pudding, subtly infused with orange blossom water, giving it an exotic, incense-like aroma that was both surprising and delightful. Along with some Arabic coffee (brewed with the grounds directly in the water over a hot stove) provided a strong & aromatic accompaniment to the sweet desserts and a perfect end to a splendid meal!

Contrary to our expectations of a formal dining setup, Saj operates as a casual, counter-service restaurant. This laid-back approach adds to its charm, making it an ideal spot for both lunch and a casual dinner. The location in downtown OKC's Automobile Alley is convenient, with ample parking options, making it easily accessible for a relaxed dining experience for a night on the town.
